The Story
Many years ago, I was reading the book of Nehemiah early one Sunday morning. This book is so full of truth, God's love for His people, and the people's love for God. Nehemiah ventured back to his homeland after being taken captive, with the blessings of the King, in order to help rebuild it. His beloved Jerusalem had been destroyed some 20 years earlier. He took some provisions and wept when he saw the devastation. After much work had been completed, the Book of the Law (what is now the first few books of the Old Testament) was found. Ezra the Scribe, and his friend, Nehemiah and some others realized that they were in the season of Tabernacles. This was a feast time, when God had told His people to build temporary shelters to commemorate their time in the wilderness. Then they would have a feast and celebrate God's provision of the new land, the promised land.
The people began to build the tabernacles and then Ezra, Nehemiah, and some others stood and read the Book. It had not only been lost, but much of it had also been long forgotten. They read it for 7 days, the length of the feast. Every day, all day, they read, and the people listened.
That morning, at my kitchen table, I read "So They read in the Book of the Law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading" Nehemiah 8:8. We didn't have the technology then that we do now, I don't even think I had a cell phone. So, I couldn't really look anything up, but those words kept ringing in my head and my heart.
I had to go get ready for church and was praying and asking the Lord about it. Then he clearly told me, "This is what I want you to do, to 'Cause them to understand.'" I knew in that moment, that was my calling, and now, after many years, I know that is also a gift I have.
I have taught the word of God for over 20 years and absolutely love it.
When 2020 came upon us, I was shocked at how many people in the body of Christ were scared, shaken, troubled and fearful. That is not what God wants for us. But we were all in new territory, so I was trying to see what the real issue was. Then when churches opened back up, I just knew they were going to change and go deeper, and help people heal. But I was shocked to see so many churches going back to "church as usual." We were in new territory and the body of Christ needed to shift because our world had changed.
As I contemplated what I was seeing, I realized that many churches had become more motivational in nature and had 'lost' the deeper truths and foundational teachings that were standard fare many years ago. Most churches were about getting people in the seats, not developing strong disciples, rooted deeply in the truth and the Word of God.
My heart is to 'cause you to understand.' Not just the word of God, but the fact that without knowing and understanding His word, you will be 'tossed about by every wind.' Ephesians 4:14 tells us "Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth."
The teachings and materials provided here is about helping you develop the strong foundations that will carry you through life, and no longer throw you into fear and doubt again....like 2020 did for many.
